EYE OF GYRE, a gallery space located in the GYRE shopping complex in Omotesando, will be renamed GYRE GALLERY and reopened in April. Its first exhibition will be "David Lynch: Empire of the Spiritual Frontier," which will run from April 19th to June 23rd.

GYRE, which opened in 2007 and was designed by the Dutch architectural group MVRDV, is named after the word "vortex, rotation," and as such, the concept embodies the philosophy of "SHOP & THINK," which comes from the word "vortex" and means "to live while being aware of what is happening in the world."The mall has attracted attention and been loved around the world as a commercial facility with a unique will that acts as a magnetic field that draws things in, and a moving body that draws in new energy and people. "EYE OF GYRE," a gallery space on the third floor of GYRE, also serves as a place that creates inspiration and opportunities for participation, promoting new ideas that combine shopping experiences with social consciousness. As a generator of new culture for Omotesando and, by extension, Tokyo, it has hosted exhibitions by world-renowned artists such as Anish Kapoor, Kohei Nawa, and Yoichi Ochiai, as well as creators who represent the current era. The newly opened "EYE OF GYRE" space was designed by JTQ Tanigawa Junji, who is also the artistic director of MEDIA AMBITION TOKYO and whose work includes the concept work for GINZA SIX. The space was designed by Swiss-based architects Yuichi Koshiro and Thomas Hildebrandt, and the new gallery logo was designed by Rikako Nagashima of village®. The exhibition is planned by Kayoko Hirao of HiRAO INC, who is the overall producer of GYRE, and directed by Takayoshi Iida, an independent curator who has curated numerous exhibitions at various art museums and galleries.

The first exhibition, "David Lynch: Empire of the Spiritual Frontier," will run from April 19th to June 23rd. This exhibition, based on the concept of the title "Empire of the Spiritual Frontier," was personally selected through extensive discussions between David Lynch himself and curator Iida. The exhibition is structured to explore Lynch's creative origins and pays tribute to his early experimental film "Eraserhead" and its inspiration in the Philadelphia industrial area where it was shot. The exhibition features seven carefully selected paintings, three drawings, 22 photographs of industrial areas, and 12 watercolors.
