Genten opens limited-time shop at Shinjuku Isetan. Collaboration bags with House Industries also available.

May 7, 2015

Genten will be holding an event celebrating the brand's 15th anniversary from May 11th to 19th at The Stage #1 on the first floor of the Isetan Shinjuku Main Building. The event will feature eco-friendly pre-sale items, custom orders, and collaboration items with photo design company House Industries. The event, titled "LIFE with Genten - Make My Origin; Future Classics -," will feature leather items focusing on the brand's "origins"—tanned leather. Pre-sale items at the venue include a tanned leather tote bag (¥63,000), backpacks (from ¥45,000), key chains (¥5,300), corsages (from ¥8,200), gadget cases (from ¥8,000), shoehorns (from ¥4,800), and a Reversi game (¥55,000). Limited edition models in collaboration with House Industries will also be available. From Genten's iconic Amano Nuova series will be a tote bag (69,000 yen) with geometric patterns and graphics painted on the side, as well as a leather door hanger (5,500 yen) with the words "WELCOME" and "WC" written on it, and a rice sack (23,000 yen) shaped like a rice bag. Craftsmen will also be on hand to take custom orders, sewing items to the customer's desired size. The extremely simple "Tosca" series is available in four colors (natural brown, brown, red, and navy), and a new shoulder bag will also be available, with the shoulder strap length and gusset width adjustable to your liking. The store's Main Building 1 Handbag Promotion will also feature the environmentally conscious brand GLEAN&Co., Ltd. Eco-friendly and artistic bags will be featured, including a pigskin handbag (47,000 yen) with a pattern created by using unused milk bottle caps and patches on the inside, and a tote bag (large size: 32,000 yen, small size: 26,000 yen) with a three-dimensional leather pattern on the outside. This event is part of Mitsukoshi Isetan's Global Green Campaign, which focuses on coexistence between people and nature. The purpose of this campaign is to encourage customers to reconsider the role and meaning of purchasing things for the environment, people, society, and the planet. In this sense, Genten is returning to its roots in the idea that "humans are part of nature" when it comes to manufacturing, and is promoting this campaign by creating environmentally friendly products that take into consideration the Earth's limited resources. The fact that you can enjoy the "aging" of the leather bag's surface also reflects the brand's environmental stance.
