"Spring" evokes a variety of issues, including the awakening from winter, the turning of the academic year with graduations, enrollments, and new jobs, and historically, the "Prague Spring," "Arab Spring," the environmentally conscious "Silent Spring," and "The Rite of Spring," which expresses the preciousness and cruelty of life. During the exhibition, on April 30, 2019, the Heisei era will come to an end, ushering in a new era.

Through her more than 20 years of creative practice, Lieko Shiga (born 1980) has come to realize that the physical issue of "spring," which affects the mind and spirit, is deeply connected to social systems and norms, and can even serve as a keyword for viewing human history and the environment as a whole. Following extensive dialogue with numerous experts, contemporaries, and family members, she has produced a new work for this important spring, marking the end of the Heisei era.

During the exhibition period, the artist will also give an artist talk from 14:00 on March 10th, and a workshop called "One Stone" will be held from 14:30 on March 21st, where participants will talk with the artist about the stones they have picked up. Other related events are planned, such as a "Technology Café" to discuss the exhibition's theme, and a gallery talk by the curator in charge.

This exhibition will provide a forum for reconsidering the relationship between society and individuals, and the relationship between nature and humanity, and sharing and reconsidering the challenges of modern society.
