London Men's Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2019-20 took place from January 5th to 7th. This season, the main venue moved to Truman Brewery, a former brewery in Shoreditch, the heart of East London. John Lawrence Sullivan, who held his show on the first day, chose Cachette, an event space under the elevated railway not far from the main venue, as the venue for his fifth London collection. The show was a huge success, with both seated and standing room only fully booked. The show kicked off with a live performance by the UK-based band Wild Daughter. Designer Arashi Yanagawa, who reexamined the close relationship between fashion, music, and subculture, presented a sophisticated, modern punk-style collection set to post-punk and gothic rock music this season. What was striking was the abundance of animal prints, including python, tiger, cheetah, and crocodile. While styling that combined these elements to an extreme degree graced the runway, the beautifully tailored pieces, a signature of John Lawrence Sullivan, maintained a contemporary yet understated look. Soft earth tones like beige and khaki were used as a base, with vibrant orange and red accents, and a long tailored coat lined with a lustrous green, adding a playful touch to the rich palette. Designer Yanagawa received thunderous applause when he appeared in the finale. While London Men's Fashion Week has seen a reduction in both the number of shows and the number of brands since last season, rapidly growing young brands like A COLD WALL and CHARLES JEFFERY LOVERBOY continue to compete fiercely in the London men's category. John Lawrence Sullivan is carving out a unique position for itself.
