The 68th Cannes Film Festival began on May 13th (local time). Leading filmmakers from around the world are attending, bringing their films to the festival. The southern French resort town of Cannes, a gathering place for celebrities, is also bustling with parties day and night. Numerous charity parties unrelated to film are also held, including the Heart Fund's Generous People Dinner Gala, held at the InterContinental Carlton on the 18th (local time). Hosted by the Heart Fund, a charity organization that supports surgery for economically disadvantaged children with heart disease, the gala was attended by Leonardo DiCaprio and Paris Hilton. At a charity auction, Leo beat Paris to win a Chanel bag for 10,000 euros. Apparently, the person he's giving the blue, floral-embroidered bag to is his mother, Irmelin. Leo also won a bid for a stay at Nikki Beach, a beach club located in resorts around the world. The proceeds from the day, along with other donations, will hopefully help the organization achieve its goal of purchasing a plane equipped with medical facilities.
