The No. 1 pudding for gifts: A pudding revolution in Kagurazaka [EDITOR'S BLOG]

Dec 7, 2018
ACHO is a takeaway shop selling puddings and baked goods. The shop is located in a residential area, a little ways off the main street of Kagurazaka (around the back of la kagu).

Today, we'll introduce one of ACHO's exquisite products as a recommended gift.

Although it's a small shop, the shelves inside are filled with individually wrapped baked goods such as pound cakes, tarts, sablés, and scones.

When I first visited the shop, what caught my eye in particular were the shiny array of puddings lined up in the display case. Judging from its height, fine texture, and weight, I imagine it's firm and chewy when you drop the spoon, and milky and rich when you put it in your mouth.

Monroe, Elvis, Oz, and Grandma are the names given to the puddings. The time spent choosing which main dish to take home today is truly blissful.

There are always nine different puddings available, subject to availability. Monroe is a raspberry-flavored cream cheese pudding. Noble is a black tea pudding with a bergamot scent. Brande Wein is an adult brandy chocolate pudding made with Otard XO. It's also a great idea to choose a seasonal flavor, such as sweet potato Grandma or champagne-based Tiara. (Grandma will be discontinued in late December and replaced by a chocolate pudding called Charlie.) And at home, we recommend transferring the puddings to a glass dish and enjoying them slowly.

The shop's other signature item, the chocolate bars, are only available in winter. Wrapped in candy and wrapped in red, green, purple, and other colored paper, the chocolate bars offer a three-layered flavor harmony that's fun to try and compare.

I don't want to do anything, but I do want to do something. What I love about this town is that it makes even a lazy day off feel like another day was a good day. If you visit ACHO, you can stop by the nearby Kamome Books for a delicious coffee, pick up bread for tomorrow's breakfast at Pain de Philosophe, or try the Turkish rice known as the "adult children's lunch" at the long-established restaurant Toledo. There are so many hidden gems in the Kagurazaka area that we can't even begin to describe, but we'll end this article with my best pudding.
