The underwater art exhibition "ECO EDO Nihonbashi Art Aquarium 2015 - Cool Edo Goldfish & Night Aquarium," which has become a Tokyo summer tradition, will be held again this year at Nihonbashi Mitsui Hall from July 10th to September 23rd.
The exhibition, which began in 2011, is led by Hidetomo Kimura, a leading figure in the "Art Aquarium" genre, which combines art and aquariums. Based on the theme of "Cool Edo Goldfish," the exhibition features goldfish swimming in a Japanese-inspired tank and various artworks incorporating lighting, video, and other effects.
Marking the fifth anniversary, numerous new works will be unveiled, with two giant artworks of particular interest. One is based on the traditional Japanese sliding door, a 3.6-meter-wide aquarium resembling a sliding door, and features interactive video projections and numerous goldfish swimming around. When a goldfish passes through a certain spot, flowers and trees appear, and the sliding screen paintings change in response to the goldfish's movements.

In a lotus flower-themed piece, goldfish dance gracefully within a giant lotus measuring approximately 4 meters square. The entire aquarium is illuminated with colorful and dynamic lighting and music, leaving a strong impact while also evoking the sadness, transience, and beauty of the lotus itself.

During the period, a "Night Aquarium" will be held every day from 7 p.m. The music and lighting will be switched to night aquarium mode, creating an adult atmosphere. In addition, original "Goldfish Cocktails" as well as drinks such as sake, beer, and mojitos will be available. On weekends, DJ performances and a "Maiko Night" featuring maiko from Kyoto's Gion district will be held.
