Starbucks Coffee Japan has teamed up with Yokohama City to hold a lights-down event called "Nothing is Charming" on December 11th, in which Yokohama's landmark buildings, including the Yokohama Cosmo World Ferris Wheel, and all 48 Starbucks stores in the city will simultaneously turn off their lights.
The "Nothing is Charming" lights-down event will be held on December 11th, the 21st anniversary of the Kyoto Protocol, an international framework for preventing global warming, as an initiative to create an opportunity for citizens to think widely about energy conservation and global warming countermeasures. By turning off the lights that are usually taken for granted, participants will enjoy the absence and have an opportunity to rethink their lifestyles.
At 48 Starbucks stores in Yokohama City, the lights will be turned off for one hour from 7pm to 8pm on the day, and the use of electronic devices such as smartphones and PCs will be prohibited inside the stores, transforming them into an extraordinary space lit only by small lights such as candle-shaped LEDs.
In addition to turning off the lights in the stores, there will also be a workshop to make origami lanterns that can be placed over the candle-shaped LED lights (no advance reservations required, participation is free).
Detailed information on the stores hosting the event can be found on the special website (https://sbux.jp/light).
