Hankyu Bread Fair is themed around bread from around the world! Popular stores opening in Kansai for the first time and a special corner featuring chocolate bread

Event Date:2018.11.14-11.19
Nov 8, 2018
The 7th Hankyu Bread Fair will be held from November 14th to 19th at the 9th floor event space of the Hankyu Umeda Main Store, bringing together bread from a total of approximately 50 stores across Japan, from popular boulangeries to local bakeries.

The 7th edition of this hugely popular event will feature the theme "Breads of the World," featuring distinctive breads from around the world. It will showcase not only delicious breads but also their history and cultural backgrounds. Other highlights include a popular Kanto boulangerie making its Kansai debut, fluffy melon bread from downtown Tokyo, and the traditional "Special Feature Corner," making it a truly bread-filled six-day event.

The world bread section is titled "Bread around the world!" and features authentic artisans and chefs who have trained at local boulangeries recreating the delicious flavors that each country boasts. "Pide" (454 yen) from Chiden by Hot Cross in Horie, Osaka, is a Turkish bread with a fragrant boat-shaped dough and a base of ground beef stewed in tomato sauce, topped with cheese and bell peppers. It is said to be the "original form of pizza."

Other popular items include "Mandazi" (130 yen) from African Bakery Cafe Namitete in Niigata, which is known for its rich coconut milk flavor and cardamom aroma and is eaten as a snack bread in Malawi; "Hot Cross Bun" (270 yen) from The Yellow Deli in Uzumasa, Kyoto, which is characterized by its icing shaped like a cross and is a traditional Easter food in Australia; and "Hot Cross Bun" (270 yen) from La Deli in Yokohama, Kanagawa. Guests can enjoy local flavors from 14 countries at the venue, including Porta's "Panzerotti" (648 yen), a Milanese specialty "fried pizza" filled with fresh tomatoes, prosciutto, and cheese in a piping hot crust.

There will also be a special "World Sandwich Stand" featuring hearty sandwiches such as Turkish mackerel sandwiches and Israeli falafel sandwiches. Enjoy sandwiches from around the world for dine-in.

Boulangerie Pâtisserie Tretour Adachi
"Chausson au Poire et Chocolat" (454 yen) *Limited to 50 pieces

Popular shops from the Kanto region will also be making an appearance. Yokohama's boulangerie Patisserie Trétour Adachi is opening its first store in the Kansai region. Run by the Adachi couple, who trained at a popular French boulangerie, the shop offers breads that perfectly capture the authentic taste of France. The "Chausson au Poire et Chocolat" (454 yen), with half a pear inside a flaky pie crust, is limited to 50 pieces.

The specialty "Janbo Melon Bread" (221 yen) from Kagetsudo in Asakusa, Tokyo, will also be available. The secret to its fluffy, cotton candy-like texture is the dough, which is left to ferment at low temperature for around three hours. You'll be amazed at how big it is, as it's big enough to hide your face in.

"Chocolate Bread" Special Corner
The customary special corner features a huge collection of around 30 types of "chocolate bread." The lineup is rich in individuality, including bunny-shaped, banana & cinnamon & chocolate, and chocolate chip-filled varieties. Also not to be missed is the popular "white bread" special corner, which features four Hokkaido brands, including Morimoto and LeTAO.
