On September 30th, during the Paris Fashion Week, Marimekko presented their Spring/Summer 2019 collection in a presentation format. The venue was the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, next to the Louvre. Marimekko's theme for 2019 was "Bold by Nature."
While returning to its roots, the brand offers a functional wardrobe for modern women. As the brand name, Marimekko, means "Marie's dress" in Finnish, this season's collection features a rich selection of dresses. The collection focuses on long dresses that are comfortable and flattering without revealing the body. While their signature floral prints are typically three-tone, they were presented in two-tones, such as black and white, with larger patterns, emphasizing the brand's "bold" theme. Additionally, workwear such as jumpsuits and cargo pants featuring the brand's new "Vikri" floral textile were key looks this season. Because of its high functionality, workwear tends to have a casual, street-style impression, but the unique use of colours and high-quality fabrics have updated it to a cute style that is both endearing and familiar, typical of Marimekko.
The content evokes the image of a cheerful woman who, by eliminating unnecessary decoration and freeing herself, gains confidence in being natural and true to herself, and discovers new joys and aesthetics in life. Wearing Marimekko clothes will gently encourage you to act "naturally and boldly".
