The PASS THE BATON GALLERY inside the PASS THE BATON Omotesando store will host the SAIKAI FACTORY SHOP, a limited-time shop by Saikai Touki, which deals in Hasami ware and other products, from October 4th to 28th.

Saikai Touki is based in Hasami Town, Nagasaki Prefecture, one of Japan's leading ceramic manufacturing regions, and deals in ceramics from the Hizen region of Kyushu. Since 2013, the company has collaborated with local manufacturers to plan and develop its own tableware, working to popularize the "Hasami ware" brand. Hasami ware, which is attractive for its reliable quality and price, differs from mass production in a single factory in that every step of the production process is done by hand. Furthermore, the shrinkage rate of the clay and the environment of the kiln change depending on the season and temperature, resulting in individual differences in shape, size and firing color.
Even among such products that have been rejected from inspection due to cosmetic issues, there are still products that are good enough to be used. This factory shop will mainly sell second-quality products that are usable but would not be distributed due to Japan's strict inspection standards. Brands on display include Common, Essence, The Porcelains and Nishika.

In addition, during the event, there will be a "Ceramics Workshop Using Transfer Stickers," where you can design and layout your favorite transfer sheets on mugs and plates to create one-of-a-kind original mugs and plates. The workshop will be held from 1:00 PM, 2:00 PM, 3:00 PM, and 4:00 PM on October 10th, 17th, and 24th, and from 2:00 PM, 3:00 PM, and 4:00 PM on October 13th, 14th, 20th, and 21st. Finished works can be picked up in-store at a later date, or shipped cash on delivery. The participation fee is 2,000 yen, and although reservations will be given priority, same-day participation is also possible. Reservations can be made by email (hi@tokyosaikai.com) with your name, age, address, phone number, and desired date and time.
Why not search for your favorite tableware in a store that feels like a shop attached to a factory?
