Ginza Mitsukoshi's dress-up rental app, "CARITE," launched on August 1st for a limited time (until November 30th).
FASHION HEADLINE is introducing available rental items and presenting a discussion analyzing the current state of dress fashion, organized by theme. This time, we asked stylist Chie Hosonuma for tips on dressing up.

Black dresses are a common part of adult dress-ups. How can you stand out from the crowd and completely change up your look?

FH Editorial Department (hereinafter FH): As we get older, we tend to avoid sweet colors, and it's becoming more common to attend a wedding where all of our friends are wearing "all black."
Stylist Chie Hosonuma (hereinafter, Hosonuma):Black dresses are an item that only adults can pull off, so it's only natural that this would happen. So this time, I suggested a style where pants are layered over a black dress from HELMUT LANG. While some people might be hesitant to layer pants with a dress for formal occasions, this is the perfect styling for mature women who want to avoid exposing too much skin.
FH: Even when wearing a dress, you have a cool aura!
Hosonuma:Pairing it with pants tightens the overall look more than just a dress, adding a touch of maturity and style. For shoes, I didn't choose ladylike pumps, but instead chose mannish sandals. Covering all of your skin can look unfashionable, so I left my toes and ankles exposed to add a casual touch.

FH: The boldness of the black and white is cool. In this case, I think the choice of accessories is also important.
Hosunuma:Of course, pairing it with traditional pearls would be nice, but depending on the design, they could look too much like black formal wear. To go for a more modern look, I think gold or silver metallic types would be good. I recommend accessories with a solid feel, such as plate designs.
FH: The shell-shaped metallic clutch is also striking.
Hosunuma:Even playful items like these can easily look toy-like when carried by young people. But when carried by an adult woman dressed in a modern style, they really stand out stylishly. Black dresses tend to look stiff and heavy, so I think it's important to "break it up with accessories."

FH: In addition to layering suggestions, various creative ideas, such as the right choice of accessories and small items, can make a black dress look much fresher.
Hosunuma:Cool styling overwhelmingly suits adult women. Japanese people tend to dress up a bit too sweet, so I hope to see more adults who can pull off this kind of look in a cool way.
Next time, we'll be introducing "How to do makeup to stand out at a party."
