Known as one of Japan's leading photographers, Yoshihiro Tatsuki was born in Tokushima Prefecture in 1937. Since beginning his career as a photographer in 1958, he has been active in fields such as fashion, portraiture, and advertising, while also presenting his photographic works as his life's work. Tatsuki first gained attention as a photographer with his debut work, "Tongue-Out Angel," which ran over 56 pages in the magazine Camera Mainichi in 1965. This work, which portrays an urban fantasy with a single female protagonist and unrestrained camerawork, had a profound influence on contemporary photographers and remains a classic to this day. His subsequent works include "Private Life" (1971), which depicts a world reminiscent of the New Wave, featuring actress Mariko Kaga as the heroine; "My America" (1980), which captures the true face of a great nation as it changes during a journey through the United States; "Family Portrait" (1990), which captures "moments" that evoke family bonds; and "Photography of the Wind" (2006), which uses snapshot techniques to expose the drama of everyday life. This fall, a new edition of "Tongue-Out Angel" will be published, adding previously unreleased shots to his debut work.

This exhibition will see the debut of Tatsuki's latest work, "Yesterdays: A Rhapsody in Black and White," which combines snapshots of scenes he encounters in his daily life with photo sessions with four women. Tatsuki has consistently worked with monochrome photography since his debut, converting the world as seen by our eyes into black and white, drawing a strong awareness of light and shadow, which we don't normally pay attention to. Finding a vivid reality in the black and white world created by light, and capturing the fantastical world that suddenly appears from the gaps in reality, his works have a powerful impact and expressive power that is difficult to put into words.
