Isetan Mitsukoshi Holdings announced preliminary sales figures for May on the 3rd. Mitsukoshi Isetan's total sales increased 7.0% year-on-year, marking the fourth consecutive month of year-on-year growth.
The strong performance was due to significant sales growth at major stores: Isetan Shinjuku Main Store (10.7%), Mitsukoshi Nihombashi Main Store (4.2%), and Mitsukoshi Ginza Store (11.9%). Sales at domestic group department stores also increased 0.8%, with all stores except Hakodate Marui Imai posting year-on-year growth.
Individual stores performed well, including the Isetan Shinjuku Main Store, which underwent a grand reopening after a remodel in March, and the Mitsukoshi Ginza Store, which has a high sales ratio of high-end items. Regional stores also performed well, including the Isetan Matsudo Store (4.3%) and the Isetan Sagamihara Store (2.8%).
By product category, women's clothing and women's accessories such as handbags continued to perform well since early spring. Most product categories, particularly women's and men's clothing, recorded sales that exceeded those of the previous year. Sales of high-priced items such as jewelry and watches also remained strong. In addition, the various events and projects held by each store during the Golden Week period, when good weather continued, also had a positive effect on sales, attracting more customers.
