TAG Heuer releases limited edition red and blue timepiece to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7

Oct 7, 2022
In 2021, the two brands entered into a global partnership that celebrates their shared heritage and values. As the fourth installment of their collaborative product design project, the two companies will unveil two new timepieces that bring together the creative talents of both companies to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7, the first 911 to bear the Carrera name, which will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2022.

To commemorate this milestone, the two TAG Heuer Carrera x Porsche RS 2.7 timepieces feature the timeless characteristics of the 1963 chronograph and the 1972 sports car.

"The Carrera name and its DNA hold immense symbolic meaning for both TAG Heuer and Porsche. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the iconic RS 2.7, the first Porsche 911 to bear the Carrera name, we wanted to create timepieces from our proud TAG Heuer Carrera chronograph line that paid tribute to the character and power of this groundbreaking sports car. For these two timepieces, we envisioned refined, distinctive, and memorable timepieces that reflect our illustrious past while also representing the exciting future of Porsche and TAG Heuer together."

TAG Heuer CEO, Frédéric Arnault

"The Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 was the first 911 to bear the Carrera name and was Porsche's top model at the time. The anniversary of the birth of this iconic sports car is the perfect opportunity to present a timepiece in collaboration with our close partner, TAG Heuer. Our two companies share a unique philosophy and love of craftsmanship that combines tradition and innovation."

Detlef von Platen, Porsche Board Member for Sales and Marketing

The First Porsche 911 Carrera
The Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7, which debuted at the Paris Motor Show on October 5, 1972, remains a hugely popular collector's item. Like the TAG Heuer Carrera, this iconic sports car combines racing spirit, performance, and elegance in a new way.

Designed for racing and rallying, the Carrera RS was the first Porsche 911 dedicated to motorsport and nicknamed "Carrera." When Jack Heuer first heard of the Carrera Panamericana, the name captured his imagination.

The Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 was released towards the end of the first generation of the 911. At the time, it was the fastest German-made car and the most powerful road-legal 911. It was lightweight, aerodynamic, and the world's first road sports car with front and rear spoilers (known as a ducktail), improving stability and top speed. Its unequal-width front and rear wheels also improved cornering speed and braking performance. It was a road-legal vehicle designed for racing. The Heuer Carrera is another chronograph developed with this philosophy in mind. It offers optimal timekeeping functionality and legibility for high-speed racing, while also satisfying the demands of gentlemen drivers seeking sophisticated design for everyday use.

The Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 is produced in 27 vibrant colors reminiscent of the 1970s, two of which, red and blue, are featured in this collaboration with TAG Heuer. Each vibrant color is combined with white to highlight the car's unique and instantly recognizable features, such as the bold five-spoke rims, the Carrera and Porsche logos painted on the body panels, and the famous solid line on the sides, while providing a striking contrast with the bright white throughout the vehicle.

TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph
This limited-edition timepiece also features a beautiful two-tone design. Based on the 42mm TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph, it features an elegant tri-compax arrangement, chronograph hour and minute subdials at 3 and 9 o'clock, and a permanent seconds counter and date window at 6 o'clock. Like the powerful Porsche 911 Carrera, the TAG Heuer Carrera boasts a power reserve of approximately 80 hours and is powered by the in-house Calibre Heuer 02, one of the most cutting-edge chronograph movements. The sapphire crystal caseback reveals the rotor, designed to resemble Porsche's three-spoke steering wheel and featuring the TAG Heuer and Porsche logos.

Blue Edition
The Blue Edition is limited to 500 pieces and is stamped XXX/500. Its exquisitely polished steel case and rhodium-plated indices and hour and minute hands are reminiscent of the car's chrome door handles, mirrors, and window frames. The smooth white opaline dial is complemented by two contrasting azure-finish sub-counters. Porsche design codes are seamlessly integrated into this TAG Heuer timepiece: the blue lacquered chronograph and central hands, blue lacquered pushers, the shield logo on the crown, and the blue Calibre Heuer 02 markings. The right-hand sub-counter resembles a beautiful rim. Porsche's distinctive color stripes and Carrera logo boldly feature on the dial, flange, case flank, and strap.

This Blue Edition is available with either a sporty fabric strap bearing the Porsche logo and Carrera markings, or an elegant steel bracelet with ergonomic H-links for more formal occasions.

Red Edition
The Red Edition is even rarer, limited to just 250 pieces and marked with XXX/250. The sophisticated case, crown, pushers and screw-down sapphire crystal caseback are all crafted from 18K rose gold. The polished white dial features a circular outer band outlined in red guard and rose gold-tone applied indexes, permanent seconds counter, and hour and minute hands.

The fiery Porsche signature color is also featured on the chronograph and second hands, as well as the sub-counters and flange scales. The in-house movement is marked Calibre Heuer 02 in stylish black engraving and can be seen through the case back. A glamorous alligator strap with an 18K rose gold pin buckle complements the sophisticated case.

Each of the two collector's watches comes in specially designed TAG Heuer x Porsche packaging, featuring vibrant accent colors in the same color. They will be available in TAG Heuer boutiques and the official online boutique (https://www.tagheuer.com) from October 5, 2022.

With these two models celebrating the 50th anniversary of the RS 2.7, TAG Heuer and Porsche once again demonstrate the strength and reliability of their partnership. By combining the best designs from both motorsport and watchmaking – the TAG Heuer Carrera and the Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 – TAG Heuer and Porsche have perfectly captured the racing spirit of the Carrera. Delighting collectors and enthusiasts who embrace the performance and style that TAG Heuer and Porsche represent, these two bold watches skillfully combine the most beloved and recognized design codes of both brands.
