IHNN's new approach with Suzuki Chikashi and Kitamura Michiko [2018-19 Fall/Winter Women's Collection]

Tokyo-based brand IHNN recently unveiled the visuals for its Fall/Winter 2018-19 collection. Regarding this approach, designer Chisung IHNN explained, "In contrast to the current trend of simply browsing clothes on Instagram and other platforms using small mobile phone screens, I wanted to create an opportunity for viewers to think about the clothes, even if just a little."

This "opportunity (=new way of presenting)" is not about creating a "look" but rather a memorable "visual." A "look" refers to photos like a seasonal catalog that showcase a single styling. In contrast, the "visual" here refers to a more powerful, contemporary, and memorable expression that goes beyond the boundaries of advertising-style photographs. It seems that "visual" expression in the latter sense has not been well established for Tokyo-based brands.

This time, Suzuki Chikashi shot the visuals for IN's Fall/Winter 2018-19 collection. He teamed up with stylist Kitamura Michiko to shoot the "visuals" with Fukushi Rina as the model. A weekend-only installation was also held in Daikanyama.

This season's collection was inspired by Mozart's "Dissonance," composed in 1785. Based on a bold color palette of dark yellow, ultra violet, and lavender, unusual for Fall/Winter, the collection expresses a "dissonant" worldview with random stitching, free use of string, and original textiles.
