Gucci launches new "GUCCI DIY" program to customize tote bags and sneakers

May 25, 2018
Gucci will launch a new program for its personalization service, "Gucci DIY (Do It Yourself)," which allows customers to customize products and express their individuality, on May 10th exclusively at the Gucci official online store and Gucci.com.

Creative Director: Alessandro Michele / Art Director: Christopher Simmonds / Photographer & Director: Petra Collins

The new program applies to the "Ophidia" tote bag and "Ace" sneakers. Customers can personalize the design visually using special tools on the website. They can also order at Gucci Wooster in New York. Bags and shoes under this program will be delivered in special packaging printed with "ABCDEFGucci."

Advertising visuals and a film by Petra Collins will be released to coincide with the program's launch, showcasing the allure of customizable bags and shoes through the imagination of a character who dreams of becoming a rock star.
Ophidia Tote Bag

Customize your Ophidia tote with a large appliqué featuring a custom letter from the specially designed "Gucci DIY" alphabet. The selected letter comes with a brown leather handle and trim against a GG pattern background. The bag features a gold metal Double G accent and green, red, and green Web stripes on both sides.
The appliqués are available in a choice of materials: leather, crocodile, python, or crystal-encrusted felt. Each side can be customized with different lettering. A similar initial design can also be applied to the "Ace" sneakers (one letter per shoe).

The text appears on the two-button sneaker patch. Customers can choose from a variety of material and color combinations, including bright red, green, yellow, pink, and black leather; red, green, and dark natural yellow python; shiny fuchsia pink or gold silk nappa; and black felt lined with crystals in the shape of letters.

The sneakers feature Gucci's iconic blue, red, and blue Web stripes and red and blue metallic leather trim on the heel.
The shoes and the bag will feature a mark on the insole and inside, respectively, to indicate that they are DIY customized items.

A special tool on Gucci.com allows you to virtually preview your personalized "Gucci DIY" products. This process combines computer-generated 3D images with actual product photos, allowing you to see the color and material combinations in a realistic-looking image. The tool works seamlessly across all devices, from mobile to desktop to tablet, on Gucci.com.

In addition, a dedicated in-store app using augmented reality technology has been developed for Gucci Worcester, bringing a sense of authenticity to the "Gucci DIY" offered in the store. By using this app, customers can customize their items while viewing actual Gucci products in the store on a dedicated iPad, enjoying a new DIY visual experience that allows them to see their designs in the real world.

The new "Gucci DIY" program is scheduled to be rolled out to other Gucci stores from September.
