Keith Haring, along with artists such as Warhol and Basquiat, is one of the most representative artists of American art in the 1980s.
He rose to prominence with his "Subway Drawings," graffiti art in which he painted billboards in the New York subway. Until his death in 1990 at the young age of 31, he left behind a wide range of works, from paintings and sculptures to animation and record covers. Haring particularly focused on poster art, producing over 100 posters, ranging from socially relevant works such as those for nuclear disarmament, AIDS prevention, and National Coming Out Day, which encouraged LGBT people to come out, to commercial works such as those for Absolut Vodka and Swatch.

Also, with the motto "Art belongs to everyone," Akira opened "Pop Shop" in New York in 1986, selling original goods. In 1988, following the first New York store, he opened a store in Aoyama, Tokyo. At the time, street performances were popular in the Omotesando pedestrian zone, where he performed chalk drawings on the street, garnering much attention. This exhibition will feature approximately 30 treasured photographs capturing these rare images, on display for the first time in the world.

In addition, approximately 70 works, including original posters from the Nakamura Keith Haring Collection and house music and punk rock record covers, will be exhibited in Tokyo for the first time.
In addition, booths reminiscent of "Pop Shops" will be set up within the venue, selling merchandise.
Haring had a desire to communicate with many people through art, and through his drawing performances he communicated with people beyond words. Visit Omotesando, a street full of memories for which he is known, and reflect on the messages he continued to send throughout his life.
