The Kawagoe Bread Marche, bringing together small bakeries from Kawagoe and Saitama, will be held on May 13th in the Maruhiro Kawagoe store's No. 6 parking lot and the first floor of the building next to the East Exit parking lot. Twenty bakeries with a passion for bread-making will be participating.


Kawagoe, known as Little Edo and a renowned tourist destination, is dotted with unique bakeries. This event, created by Kawagoe bakers who love the city, first took place in 2012. Since its inception, the annual marche has attracted many visitors from all over the country, creating a lively atmosphere and becoming a new Kawagoe specialty. This year marks its seventh year, and the event has expanded in scale. The event will be held at the Maruhiro Kawagoe store.

Thirteen stores from Kawagoe will be participating: Homemade Natural Yeast Bakery KiKi, NANTSUKA BAKERY, Zentaro, HANDMADE BAKERY nicori, Bäckerei 0044, Pan no Kaori, Boulanger Lunettes, Bakery Clover, WACCI, BREADMAN, Bakery Crepe, Cafe and Bakery Donna Toki Demo, and Kawagoe Bakery Rakuraku. Other guests from within the prefecture include seven stores: Boulangerie Kishimoto and Pan Kobo Nukku from Tokorozawa, Panya no takesan! from Toda, Boulangerie Coton from Tsuruse, Bagel Kobo Hirai from Hidaka, co-mame bakery from Niiza, and Le popotan from Fujimino, for a total of 20 stores.


In addition, as "bread companions", "Cafe&Bar Upper East Side" will be serving hot dogs, "Cafe&Kitchen Raftel" will be serving French toast, "glin coffee" will be serving koppepan (rolled bread), "La Foire Kawagoe" will be serving hot sandwiches, and "BurgerCafe honohono" will be serving hamburgers. As for "bread accompaniments", "Nonoyama Bee Farm nonoyama youhouen" will be providing honey, and "Hayashi Ham Co., Ltd." will be providing bacon.


Workshops open to the public will also be held. Craft workshops by "tenori*," "Sushi Zakka Kenkyusho," and "Bakery mokano" are planned, as well as a workshop by the Japan Bread Coordinator Association to help people enjoy life with bread. Other special events include a workshop to learn about, eat, and enjoy bread made with Saitama-grown Hanamanten bread wheat; the 2018 Kawagoe Bread Grand Prize, "Let's Eat Kawagoe ~Local Koppepan~," "Let's Make Bread at Home! ~Easy Home Bread Making Corner~," and a charity event featuring a BBQ with breadsticks for parents and children.

This event aims to convey the charm of Kawagoe to many people through the deliciousness and fun of Kawagoe and Saitama's bakeries and bread. Why not enjoy discovering delicious bread at this warm market that everyone, from children to adults, can enjoy?
