[Tokyo Collection 2013 Spring/Summer] The youngest designer at Tokyo Collection shows off "Adiam" Ukiyo-e

Dec 12, 2012

ADIAM, led by creative director Hanako Maeda, presented its 2013 Spring/Summer collection. The theme was "ELECTRIC OCEAN." The collection drew inspiration from the world of the sea.

Inspired by late Edo-period woodblock prints such as Utagawa Kuniyoshi's "Miyamoto Musashi Slays the Whale" and Katsushika Hokusai's "Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji: Under the Great Wave Off Kanagawa." Slim silhouettes and paneling create a contemporary style, while whale fin motifs are incorporated into necklines and hemlines.

The theme color palette features a rich array of neon hues, including green, yellow, and blue. This design is inspired by glowfish, a fish that glows underwater. The brand also unveiled its first original print, with colors inspired by the work of photographer Mika Ninagawa. The second half of the collection featured beaded embroidery resembling sparkling waves, adding a touch of glamour to the contemporary atmosphere. Although this was her first time participating in Tokyo Collection, the front row was lined with a stellar lineup, including New York fashion media and magazine editors-in-chief. Maeda commented, "It was my first time, so I was nervous. I'd like to participate again if I have the opportunity."
