Y's will open its world-first flagship store, featuring the full Y's line, at Omotesando Hills on April 19th. A press preview was held at the store on the 18th.


Y's creations are shaped by universal values and unique patternmaking within a unique category they have established as "functional and elegant everyday wear." The Omotesando store will carry the full collection of all seven lines, centered around the main line "Y's," as well as the currently available "Y's PINK," "RISMAT by Y's," "MICHIKO by Y's," "KAYO NAKAMURA by Y's," "Y's Exclusive," and "Gipsy." There will also be special content exclusive to the Omotesando store, such as the release of flagship limited items and events.


The store's entrance, the first floor facing Omotesando, is designed to resemble a light box, with large lighting fixtures used in photography on the ceiling. The skeleton, gallery-like layout symbolizes the store's "SHOWCASE" concept. Japan's first permanent installation of large "FLIP-DOTS" displays on the wall at the back of the stairs creates impressive sound and visual effects, showcasing "Y's" on screens for each season, collection, and store event.

The basement floor, the main shopping area, is lit with pools of light reminiscent of dry ice, creating a floating, gravity-defying interior. The first floor, a white cube with clear edges, is transformed into a dreamlike, mysterious space.

The "Y's" motif floor pattern was inspired by Japanese gardening techniques, and features a modern, classical feel with untidy details that reveal the structure. Based on the concept of "showing the behind-the-scenes of creation" and "revealing the origins of creation as new creations," the building's framework has been intentionally left intact, and the interior walls are covered with architectural materials. The edges of the staircase also retain the architectural materials, creating a frayed appearance. This is reminiscent of the cut-off design often seen at Y's, creating an interior that connects the concept of clothing and architecture.

The interior, which allows the "raw materials" to be seen through, the dreamlike imagery that is futuristic yet somehow evokes ancient Japan, the "FLIP-DOTS" device with its analog feel and cutting-edge functionality, and traditional design sources - all of these elements embody Wise's approach, where the atelier team creates new expressions with their own "hands" and builds on their accumulated creative history.

The "box" designed in the key visual is a shape that symbolizes the Omotesando store, which is a concentrated cultural gene. No two overlapping designs are alike, crystallizing the unwavering commitment to Y's craftsmanship and the amorphous creative approach of Yohji Yamamoto that underpins it, as they appear in the Omotesando store's graphics.

For the opening, 20 patterns of white broadcloth shirts, the origins of Y's, will be prepared and neatly and impressively installed on the floor. Also on display will be Omotesando store-exclusive floral pattern dresses, pants, and skirts (60,000 to 88,000 yen), Omotesando store-exclusive cut-and-sew items featuring the "Y's" logo and the floral patterns featured in the campaign visuals for the 2018 Spring/Summer collection, as well as bags (9,000 to 40,000 yen) and wallets and other small leather goods (28,000 to 36,000 yen) featuring store design motifs.

In addition, Yohji Yamamoto's "Y's" ink painting, a women's drawing, and a message are printed on the "Cut and Sew/Yohji Yamamoto Sumie" shirt. The "Yohji Yamamoto Sumie Series" (11,000 yen) and "Broad Blouse/Yohji Yamamoto Sumie Series" (32,000 to 40,000 yen) will be available. Some items will be unisex, with patterns and sizes available for both women and men, and a total of over 60 items will be available exclusively at the Omotesando store. The Omotesando store exclusive items will feature the original "Y's SHOWCASE" logo on the product tags and packaging.

The "FLIP-DOTS" screen installed on the store's staircase wall will screen a special opening movie featuring graphics created specifically for the Omotesando store, a monochrome "FLIP-DOTS" version of the first-ever Y's original movie, and a compilation of Yohji Yamamoto's drawings created specifically for the Omotesando store.
