Comme des Garçons' hidden masterpieces from the 80s and 90s archives are on display at the Shibuya Archive Store!

The Archive Store, a boutique that showcases past masterpieces by designers, is hosting an exhibition from April 14th to May 31st entitled "Collection of Comme des Garçons since 1980s," showcasing hidden gems from COMME des GARÇONS.

From the 1980s to the 1990s, COMME des GARÇONS continued to attract international attention with its "Shock of Black" and "Body Meets Dress-Dress Meets Body" designs. Their avant-garde and innovative designs, such as "holey knit" and "knotted dresses," which seemed to defy existing standards of beauty, were featured in various media outlets.

Since the special exhibition "Rei Kawakubo / Comme des Garçons. Art of the In-Between" at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York in 2017, Kawakubo has become widely discussed in the art world. However, there are also many hidden masterpieces that remain distinctive even today, even outside of this context.

This exhibition will bring together hidden masterpieces from the brand, focusing on archives from the 1980s and 1990s that have rarely been featured until now. This will be a rare opportunity to bring together archives from the era that caused a sensation in Western fashion, as well as pieces from more recent collections that will be passed down to future generations.
