Intoxicated by the lingering aftertaste of Valentino Roman [Women's Fall/Winter 2018-19]

Mar 6, 2018

Pierpaolo Piccioli's Valentino collection for Fall/Winter 2018-19 was presented in a special venue set up in the gardens of the Museum of the Order of the Liberation of France, adjacent to Les Invalides (Hôpital des Invalides). Utilizing techniques unique to couture houses, such as patchwork, appliqué, and embroidery, the collection featured modern pieces that combined bold and romantic aspects with floral motifs and scalloped edges. As Björk's music played, coats and dresses with floral motifs reminiscent of anemones were unveiled. Patchwork, which combines intricate elements to create motifs, and appliqué pieces sewn together, all felt light and delicate. The scalloped edges, reminiscent of flower petals, further enhanced the feminine look of each piece, adding a playful, graphic touch. Simple coat dresses and one-piece dresses were given a soft impression with the addition of flower-like hoods.

Another characteristic of this season's collection is that seemingly feminine items, such as semi-three-dimensional guipure lace dresses and leather fringe sets, were paired with pants for a masculine finish. In addition to the beauty of the materials, cuts and motifs, the collection captivated visitors from start to finish with its stunning color combinations and beautiful color palette.
