Learn about "India Now!" India Fair held to commemorate 60 years of diplomatic relations

Dec 12, 2012

To commemorate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and India, an event is being held for the first time at Isetan Shinjuku, bringing together everything from traditional Indian handicrafts to the latest fashion. Rare pieces, such as precious jewelry from the early 19th century and vintage pashminas costing over ¥1 million each, are on display and for sale. Also making their Japan debut are brands exhibiting at India Fashion Week, a biannual fashion event held in Delhi since 2000 by the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI). Five highly acclaimed brands, including Sanchita and Ranna Gill, are featured. Also on display at the event are Hot Pink, a select shop run by French jewelry designer Marie-Hélène de Taillac, as well as fabrics featuring sashiko and hand-printed designs, and Darjeeling leather specially selected for the event. The event runs until Monday, December 17th.
