The 125 years since Mikimoto invented cultured pearls also mark the history of Mikimoto's journey as a jeweler. Believing that pearls are truly valuable when crafted into jewelry, he devoted himself to developing designs and improving his techniques to bring to the world jewelry that rivals those of Europe.

The fruit of this endeavor was the "Yaguruma" obidome, exhibited at the 1937 Paris World's Fair. With its beautiful craftsmanship, Art Deco design symbolizing the times, and innovative multifunctionality, this masterpiece has left its mark on jewelry history and is an archival piece that symbolizes the brand. It also represents the unique high jewelry style known as the "Mikimoto Style," which combines traditional European jewelry techniques with Japanese decorative techniques.
