Aug 16, 2022
Burberry is pleased to announce a collaboration with Tsubasa Yamaguchi's popular fine art manga, "Blue Period." This collaboration between Burberry and "Blue Period" features an original story featuring a new character, "Lola," who personifies the iconic "Lola bag" designed by Riccardo Tisci. This original story booklet will be available exclusively to visitors to Burberry stores nationwide from August 20th. A digital version is also available on Burberry.com.

The story follows the emotional journey of protagonists Yaguchi Yatora and Ayukawa Ryuji as they encounter and are influenced by Lola. Yato is deeply drawn to Lola's bold actions, inner strength, purity, and free self-expression, and is inspired to break free from external and internal constraints. To commemorate this partnership, Burberry will be releasing wallpapers featuring illustrations by Tsubasa Yamaguchi exclusively on its official LINE account from the same day. Additionally, Burberry will be taking over Omotesando for a limited time until September 5th. Enjoy the special world of the manga.

The manga "Blue Period" beautifully expresses the realization that continuing to be creative enriches people's lives, which is in line with Burberry's message. The pursuit of a creative journey and the willingness to face challenges, which can be felt through Tsubasa Yamaguchi's work, are unparalleled and represent Burberry's beliefs of "innovation," "creativity," and "pushing boundaries."

Burberry will donate to the dear Me project, organized by the nonprofit organization Arts Initiative Tokyo (AIT), as part of its commitment to children, who will be the foundation of our future. dear Me provides art experiences to children and young people from diverse backgrounds, including those in child welfare institutions, and who sometimes find themselves in difficult circumstances. It fosters imagination and self-expression in each child, fostering rich learning and connections. We will work together with the children to help them learn and discover new insights.

Comment from Tsubasa Yamaguchi, author of "Blue Period"

Burberry has been a familiar and coveted brand since I was born, having seen it on television and elsewhere. So when I heard about this collaboration, I was very surprised, and honestly, a little worried that it might not come to fruition. However, as the discussions progressed and it became a real collaboration, I thought deeply about why they chose Blue Period. It made me realize that there must be something that could only be done in this manga, and that this is what they should do. Because it's a brand I admire, I wanted to avoid over-respecting it, so I created it with the same level of enthusiasm as I normally use when creating manga, thinking that this would be the best way to show respect. I hope that this can be conveyed to Burberry fans.
