Matsuya Ginza's beautiful beer garden, featuring plenty of vegetables and Ginza honey, is a big hit

Jun 20, 2013

A beer garden aimed at mature women, "BBB Terrace (Beer & BBQ & Bar terrace@888)," has opened on the rooftop of Matsuya Ginza. It will be open for a limited time until September 30th.

The main target audience is office ladies on their way home from work and fashion-conscious women. Under the theme of "a beer garden that makes you beautiful," it offers healthy food and drinks made with vegetables and honey.

On June 15th, the opening day, 150 people visited the restaurant. The clientele was mostly women and couples in their late 20s to early 40s. "The menu is geared towards women, with plenty of vegetables, but the portions are large and there is a wide selection of drinks, so it satisfies men as well. We've seen an increase in male customers on weekdays," said a Matsuya Ginza public relations representative. The main menu, the "Vegetable Set Menu" (4,500 yen), includes a barbecue of various seasonal vegetables, beef, and pork, early summer vegetable bagna cauda, vegetable bread, fried chicken, and seasonal steamed vegetables in curry sauce, and comes with two hours of free drinks. Matsuya Ginza, which participates in the "Ginza Honeybee Project," also boasts a à la carte menu, with special dishes using Ginza honey, such as the "Fluffy Ginza Honey Ice Sundae (1,200 yen)" and the "Ginza Honey Honey Cocktail" (from 800 yen), which are said to be popular. The Ginza Honeybee Project, which began in 2006, aims to create an environmentally friendly city by keeping bees on the rooftops of Ginza buildings and using honey and beeswax produced in the area. Matsuya, which has a store in Ginza, is also a participant. In addition to continuing to create original sweets using Ginza honey, they have also set up a rooftop vegetable garden for the Ginza Green Project, which aims to grow flowers and vegetables for bees to harvest nectar, promote greenery in Ginza, and prevent the heat island effect.

The beer garden is produced by Salt Consortium, the same company behind Roppongi Hills' Mado Lounge, Grand Front Osaka's THE COSMOPOLITAN GRILL|BAR|TERRACE, and the BBQ & BEER TERRACE 130Days beer garden at Lumine Est Shinjuku, which opened on May 24th.

Business hours are from 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM on weekdays and from 3:00 PM to 10:00 PM on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays (last orders for food are at 9:00 PM, and for drinks at 9:30 PM). The garden is closed on rainy days.
