Installation view at Omotesando Gyre
Nagashima Rikako designs perceptual information, acting as an intermediary between the thoughts of her subjects, with the aim of questioning existing perspectives and contributing to an awareness of a shift in values. His past projects include the Sapporo International Art Festival 2014 "City and Nature," Anish Kapoor's Introduction to Collapse, the architectural group ASSEMBLE's exhibition "Illusions and Futures of Community," and the "PEACE SHADOW PROJECT" in collaboration with contemporary artist Tatsuo Miyajima. For this exhibition, Nagashima will reconstruct his installation "Human Nature," created as a homage to sculptor Anish Kapoor in 2017, to complement the exhibition environment of the former clinic. Nagashima commented, "If I, as a woman, were to sing of the ambiguity Kapoor sings of, I would find that reality in the maternal womb. There are countless women who experience the coexistence of life and death within themselves, and the existence of others within themselves. Since ancient times, people have prayed to the gods of birth, who give birth to all things, for the continuity of life." However, along the long chain of life, there must also have been countless women who prayed, tormented by joy and sorrow, good and evil. What we have here is a form of prayer for the countless invisible knots that were never born: sons and daughters."
