Shun Kawakami, art director and artist and representative of artless Inc., has been invited to be one of the main artists at the Salon des Beaux Arts 2017, where he will exhibit his work at the Louvre Museum in Paris.

The Salon des Beaux Arts is an art festival held annually at the Louvre Museum, organized by the French art organization Société nationale des Beaux-Arts, which has a history of over 150 years. A total of 600 contemporary artists, including painters, sculptors, printmakers, photographers, and illustrators, gather from around the world to exhibit their works, which are then judged by genre. A wide range of artists from Japan, including calligraphers Sisyu and Nakatsuka Suito, have participated in the Salon des Beaux-Arts and received prestigious awards. This year's Salon will be held in the museum's "Les Salles du Carrousel" from December 7th to 10th, with the award ceremony scheduled for the 9th.

"In Praise of Shadows" 2017
"In Praise of Shadows" is a collaboration between seven shuffles (Tomoyuki Ishioka & Matija Suhadolc), a video unit based in Tokyo and London. This 17.5-meter video artwork was realized in collaboration with SUHADOLC. Using the temporal and spatial characteristics of video media, this video work redefines and reaffirms "uniquely Japanese beauty" through shadows, utilizing the complex timeline (lapse) and spatially inverted three-dimensionality of moving images. The work expresses not emptiness, but rather its opposite: the uniquely Japanese concept of "nothingness." "In Praise of Shadows" refers to the "depth of darkness," the value of momentary beauty perceived through a combination of senses other than sight, and the phenomenon of being perceived as boundless and limitless. Shun Kawakami has received numerous awards, including the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity (Cannes, France), one of the world's three major advertising awards. His exhibition at the Salon des Beaux-Arts is also noteworthy.
