On November 20th, Vivienne Westwood Anglomania held a one-night-only "festival" titled "Winter Street Festival" at STAR RISE TOWER beneath Tokyo Tower.
The venue was filled with stalls offering shooting galleries, cotton candy, smart balls, and balloon hangings. A tower was set up on the stage, and the event was full of energy, with an out-of-season Bon Odori dance, a Japanese-style DJ, and male staff members dressed in fundoshi (loincloths) selling wind chimes. The wind chimes were decorated with the familiar globe and crown mark, the Earth Grove Orb, and messages for this season. The other venue featured a disco VIP room, featuring a drag queen show and guest DJ Tomoyuki Tanaka of FPM. Given the brand's longstanding fan base in Japan, a wide range of generations enjoyed the Vivienne Night. A floor show for the Vivienne Westwood Anglomania Spring/Summer 2018 collection was also held at the venue, with models such as Rina Fukushi and Miki Ehara making their special runway appearances, including the unisex knitwear collection unveiled in London in June this year, as well as the exclusive Isetan capsule collection. The collection also incorporated traditional Kyoto techniques, including a knit dress reminiscent of the World's End era, featuring the Chinese character "michi" (road) inscribed on the chest. Kimono fabrics crafted by Tango artisans were used for bomber jackets, clutch bags, T-shirts, and more. The anarchy stripes, previously hand-painted in the archives, were reinterpreted with black and yellow Nishijin obi fabric. Alongside items with hand-drawn motifs, traditional black dyeing was printed with the season's theme, "Buy Less, Choose Well." The show mixed Vivienne's signature "crazy" punk style with a Japanese twist, featuring kimono cutouts and bags and umbrellas reminiscent of obi belts.
