Daido Moriyama worked as an assistant to photographers Takeji Iwamiya and Eikoh Hosoe before going independent in 1964. He has received international acclaim, holding solo exhibitions at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and the Fondation Cartier pour l'art contemporain in Paris. In 2012, he became the first Japanese recipient of the 28th Infinity Award for Lifetime Achievement, sponsored by the International Center of Photography (ICP) in New York. In 2012-13, he held a two-person exhibition with William Klein, "William Klein + Daido Moriyama," at London's Tate Modern, and the collaboration between the immensely popular pair took the world by storm.
In 1971, Daido Moriyama visited New York on his first overseas trip and spent approximately one month there. Immersed in the chaos, he captured over 2,000 photographs of the New York street scene with a single-minded, hunting-like intensity. This work culminated in the "Another Country in New York" series. In 2002, "'71-NY" (PPP) was published in New York. This exhibition offers a new interpretation of the "ANOTHER COUNTRY IN NEW YORK" series, showcasing works not as conventional photographs but as silkscreen canvases.
