A Shadow Necessary for Windows / at Palais de Tokyo, Paris, France 2002Shimane Prefectural Iwami Art Museum will hold a special exhibition, "COSMIC WONDER: Abundant Light," from November 11th to January 8th, 2018, showcasing the activities of COSMIC WONDER, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary.
COSMIC WONDER was founded in 1997 by contemporary artist Yukinori Maeda. Located in an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings in Miyama, Kyoto, the group produces works that combine handcrafts and crafts. Using the "Center for COSMIC WONDER" in Minami-Aoyama, Tokyo, as a base for activities and presentations, the brand has engaged internationally in a wide range of expressive fields, including the production of clothing and artwork as "waves that affect the mind" and the publication of books.
To mark the 20th anniversary of its activities, this exhibition will introduce representative works from the collections it presented in Paris between 2000 and 2009, along with valuable materials such as lookbooks and photographs documenting the collections.
