"Meguro River Everyone's Illuminations 2017" will be held from November 10th to January 8th of the following year. The sidewalks along the Meguro River are adorned with over 420,000 cherry blossom-colored LEDs, stretching a total length of approximately 2.2km on both banks, making it the largest illumination display inside the Yamanote Line. Winter cherry blossoms® reflect a beautiful sparkle on the surface of the Meguro River. "Everyone's Illuminations," vividly embodied through the unity of people, businesses, and the community, is a winter tradition that fosters community bonds through the "100% locally produced, locally consumed" illuminations, which recycle used cooking oil collected from local homes and restaurants to generate electricity. Last year, approximately 5,400 liters of used cooking oil were collected from 12 locations, including nearby apartment complexes and restaurants, and all electricity was provided by generators installed at the venue. This year, the eighth annual event, will once again recycle used cooking oil collected from nearby areas into biodiesel fuel, powering the illuminations with 100% self-generated electricity. This illumination, the only one of its kind in Tokyo to be organized by citizen action, fosters affection and pride in the newly reborn city and fosters community bonds, and this year will see the "winter cherry blossoms" bloom again.

In addition, this year, from December 8th to 27th, German-made outdoor domes called "Garden Igloos" will be available as a cherry blossom viewing spot for winter cherry blossoms®. Three will be set up in the Fureai Waterfront Plaza so that people can relax during the cold winter without worrying about the weather. These photogenic spots will be a place where people of all ages and genders can enjoy the winter cherry blossoms®.
