IDEE will open its first-ever interactive shop with an atelier, IDEE GARAGE, in Fujisawa City, Kanagawa Prefecture. The shop will be open for approximately two months, from July 20 to September 23, on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays only, on the fourth floor of the MUJI Fujisawa store, owned by group company Ryohin Keikaku. The shop's themes are "upcycling (recycling that creates new value)," "repair," and "DIY." The shop will carry original IDEE GARAGE products, such as a birdhouse made from MUJI's classic file boxes (¥12,600), a wooden shelf with silver painted stripes (price TBA), and a chair made from a commercially available stool with a mesh shelf (¥52,500). Items on sale include a selection of items sourced from around the world by IDEE GARAGE, including a "MOON" light fixture made from recycled cardboard (large ¥73,500, small ¥45,150), and a door stopper made from recycled fabric (¥3,990). IDÉE will also be accepting orders for original sofas upholstered in deadstock fabrics. A workshop will be open to visitors, where creators will hold an "Atelier Relay" event, where they will open their doors to the public on a weekly basis. Eight participating groups will include the 3D modeling group GELCHOP, the renovation-focused design company Natsumi-gumi, and the fashion brand Spoken Words Project. IDÉE staff and external instructors will also be holding seminars and workshops on furniture maintenance and customization ideas, all of which can be done with simple tools like an electric drill. A total of 40 classes are planned, including a course on cleaning and maintaining vintage chairs by Scandinavian furniture company TALO and a silkscreen-based upcycling course on accessories and clothing by Spoken Words Project. Collaborations will also be realized with Jiyu University, whose main campus is the Setagaya School of Design; the gallery sakumotto; Good Mornings, Inc., which is currently working on various projects; and the magazine for female creators, "Hakoniwa." IDEE began importing and selling Western antiques in 1975, and opened an antiques store in Minami-Aoyama in 1985. Since then, the company has placed importance on the concept of "making everyday items with your own hands and living a life filled with beloved objects," which has been the foundation of IDEE Garage.
