Keisuke Yoshida presented his Spring/Summer 2018 collection at Omotesando Hills on October 17th during Amazon Fashion Week TOKYO 2018 S/S. The venue was packed with students aspiring to work in the fashion industry, invited by Amazon Fashion, creating an energetic atmosphere.
The lights dimmed, and the show began with the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion classic "Bellbottoms." As the fast-paced music played, models appeared wearing hippie-inspired hairstyles, pink jumpsuits tied with ribbons, and platform boots. Next came models clad in sporty looks, including a tracksuit with a large hole in the front paired with a mini-skirt top, and a look with ribbing at the neck, knees, and hem. The first look's distinctive features include the tied ribbons and large holes in the front. After feeling helpless after her last collection, Yoshida returned to her roots and focused on the theme of "relaxation in everyday life." She was inspired by the hippie fashion of the 1970s she saw in materials. "I was drawn to their free-spirited attitude and their way of being free," she said. "When I started cutting and punching holes in the clothes I was making, the stiffness I'd felt up until then disappeared, and a free texture emerged." With looks that allowed for freely changing silhouettes through the way ribbons were tied, and a look in which completely different sporty clothing was revealed through holes in a jacket, Yoshida expressed the joy of being able to "freely express yourself as you are" depending on your mood at the time. The finale, accompanied by progressive rock music, seemed to evoke the same sense of exhilaration felt by hippies in the 1970s, heralding the beginning of a new era. Having overcome his sense of powerlessness and gained freedom through "Ana", Yoshida took his expression of the joy of dressing up a step further.
