Dries Van Noten is a fashion designer beloved by celebrities and fashion icons around the world. His documentary film, "Dries Van Noten: A Man Who Loved Fabric and Flowers," will be released in Japan on January 13, 2018.
This is the first documentary film to focus on the solitary genius designer, Dries, who has previously declined numerous requests for in-depth interviews. The film follows Doris over the course of a year, from backstage at the 2015 Spring/Summer women's collection at the Grand Palais in Paris to immediately after the 2016-17 Fall/Winter men's collection, presented at the Paris Opera. The film explores not only the backstage of the show, the culmination of six months of hard work, but also the entire creative process, including the atelier and embroidery studio. Directed by Rainer Holzemer, known for "Magnum Photos: The Photographers Who Changed the World," the film features music by Colin Charles Greenwood, bassist for the British rock band Radiohead. This film also offers a first-ever insider's visit to Doris's villa on the outskirts of Antwerp, a source of inspiration and support for her unique creative endeavors. Doris personally guides us through her flower and vegetable gardens, which change with the seasons, and includes rare footage of her skillfully preparing freshly picked vegetables. This film reveals the surprising true face of Dries Van Noten, a perfectionist who loves beautiful things, is scandal-free, and puts his all into everything he does, as well as a glimpse into his 25 years of career and the next 25 years.
"Dries Van Noten: A Man Who Loves Fabric and Flowers" will be released in theaters nationwide, including Human Trust Cinema Yurakucho and Shinjuku Musashinokan.
