A solo exhibition by Vinnie Nylon, a painter who influenced Banksy, is being held in Tabata

Event Date:2017.11.11-12.03
Oct 16, 2017

Vinnie Nylon, whose work has influenced many graphic artists, including London-based artist Banksy, will hold a solo exhibition titled "Straphangers" at the WISH LESS gallery in Tabata, Tokyo, from November 11th to December 3rd. Vinnie, a British graffiti writer and contemporary painter with 32 years of experience, has adopted a "strong mix of 1950s aesthetics and timeless skate culture and graffiti" as his manifesto, creating unique interpretations of iconic consumer culture icons and creating new characters. The title of this exhibition, "Straphangers," refers to a civic group that fought against the rampant graffiti and dangerous issues that plagued New York subways in the 1980s. The literal translation of the word "straphangers" is "people hanging from train straps," and Vinnie has transformed this "hanger" into artwork. The venue will feature new works previously shown at London's StolenSpace gallery, as well as a selection of special new works selected by Vinnie, as well as rare works never before seen in public.
