Stella McCartney's playful summer classics [Women's Spring/Summer 2018]

Oct 8, 2017

Stella McCartney held her Spring/Summer 2018 women's collection show at the Palais Garnier, the Paris Opera. While the brand doesn't set a specific theme each season, this season's collections tended to be inspired by office clerk uniforms. While maintaining its masculine-feminine style, the collection also featured a number of vibrantly colored and feminine pieces. Lacy materials featuring embroidered eco-leather appliqués were frequently used, giving shirt dresses and long dresses a sense of both lightness and depth. This season saw a particularly large increase in eco-leather pieces, including tops with knotted drapes and pants with string accents, leading to the creation of new "SKIN FREE SKIN" tags that were attached to the products.

Puff-sleeved dresses made from jacquard silk, as well as silk satin sets and ruffled dresses that appeared in the second half of the collection, were full of vintage feel, evoking the 70s and 80s.

Colourful pieces were also impressive, such as batik-style African print dresses with fan and microphone motifs, and workwear made from yellow and green washed denim, giving the collection as a whole a more optimistic feel.
