Located close to Umeda in Osaka, Nakazakicho has a Showa-era atmosphere and is dotted with unique shops and cafes in its back alleys. The "Equal (=) Festival in Nakazakicho 2017" will be held from October 29th to November 5th.
From 12 noon to 7pm on October 29th, the first day of the festival, various events will be held at the official venue, Nakazakicho Hall. In the barter area, produced by "xChange," a freestyle barter event project that specializes in fashion items and is open to anyone, visitors will be able to barter with each other for fashion items they have brought with them. People in the fashion industry and Yoshimoto comedians are also expected to exhibit and participate here. Additionally, the ethical area, supervised by rooms' ethical director, Mao Sakaguchi, will offer craft items made with organic ingredients and food made with carefully selected ingredients. There will also be a food and drink area where chefs will create and serve free dishes using vegetables brought by visitors or purchased at the market booths, and a special flea market area featuring stalls by models, DJs, designers, and influencers active in the Kansai region. There will also be live painting by Taizo, an artist who is a comedian but was appointed Osaka Prefecture Ambassador for Arts and Culture for People with Disabilities in 2017, and buggy, an artist active in solo exhibitions both in Japan and abroad. The talk and live events will be interactive events that focus on "meeting," "talking," "listening," and "participating." On October 29th, Meets Regional Editor-in-Chief Takemura will host a talk show called "Meets Editor-in-Chief's Room," featuring guests including BRUTUS Editor-in-Chief Nishida. Omiya Ellie will also host "Snack Ellie in Nakazakicho," where she will chat with guests over drinks. On November 3rd, there will be a live performance by artists called "Lemon Life and Songs," overseen by Chihara Tetsuya, president of the design office Lemon Life Inc. Participating shops in the festival, including NOON + CAFE x Elulu by JAM & JAM swag store, 1930 CAFE & HIKARIS hair, Usagi Cafe, and Nijiyura, will also be holding exclusive events, and works by artists and students active in the Kansai region will be exhibited in the "Town Art Gallery."
