To commemorate the 20th anniversary of Seikatsu Kobo, a Sangenjaya-based studio in Tokyo, an exhibition looking back on lifestyles over the past 60 years since the birth of home appliances, "Life with Home Appliances - Life Design Museum 2017," will be held from September 18th to October 15th.
Since the period of rapid economic growth in the 1950s, the lifestyle environment has changed dramatically with the introduction of white goods and black goods. The exhibition is divided into three eras: 1950s to 1970s, 1980s to 1990s, and 2000s and beyond, and displays approximately 20 items, including the "three sacred treasures" of home appliances, along with scenes from each era.
Also, the venue will exhibit works from a workshop held under the title "Let's design the future we wish existed!", as well as a talk event with automotive critic Hajime Tateuchi as guest, "How will electric vehicles change lifestyles?" from 2:30 pm to 4:00 pm on September 23rd, and a talk event with Tiger Corporation's Shuso Izumi and Masahiro Watanabe as lecturers, "Designing delicious rice - The evolution of home appliances as seen in the latest rice cookers," from 2:30 pm to 4:00 pm on September 30th. Both events will be held on the 4th floor of Seikatsu Kobo, with a participation fee of 500 yen and limited to the first 40 people to register (registration begins at 10:00 am on August 25th).
