Photographer and explorer Naoki Ishikawa's photo exhibition "Lhotse | Manaslu" will be held from the 28th to July 28th at EYE OF GYRE, an art space within GYRE in Omotesando, Tokyo. Admission is free.
Ishikawa climbed two Himalayan peaks in quick succession: Lhotse, the world's fourth-highest peak (8,516m) in September 2012, and Manaslu, the world's eighth-highest peak (8,163m) in May 2013. The exhibition will feature works taken during these two expeditions, which Ishikawa describes as "the culmination of his journey through the Himalayas."
In addition, a limited edition tabloid booklet titled "4," featuring photographs of Everest captured from the summit of Lhotse, will be on sale from the 28th to the 30th during the exhibition. Published by Slant, priced at 525 yen.
Ishikawa was born in Tokyo in 1977 and completed his doctoral studies at the Tokyo University of the Arts Graduate School of Fine Arts. At age 23, he first summited Mount Everest. In 2001, he climbed Mount Qomolangma, becoming the youngest person in the world to summit the highest peaks on all seven continents. Since then, he has continued to produce works on themes such as "movement as an experience of action" and travel, and in 2006, he won the Sagamihara New Photographer Encouragement Award and the Miki Jun Award for his photo book "THE VOID." He has also received numerous other awards, including the Photographic Society of Japan Newcomer Award and the Domon Ken Award. His works include "The Last Adventurer" (Shueisha), which won the Kaiko Takeshi Non-Fiction Award, and "For Everest: A Little Trip to the Top of the World" (Little More).
