On August 31, Miu Miu premiered "(THE [END] OF HISTORY ILLUSION), the 14th installment of its short film project "MIU MIU WOMEN'S TALES," at the Venice Days section of the Venice International Film Festival.
The short film was directed by Celia Rowlson-Hall, a dancer, choreographer, and filmmaker known for her work on the American TV series "Girls" and the feature film "Madame." Her vision was to combine the musical dance of the Busby Berkeley era, which is said to have revolutionized Broadway, with themes of modern concerns and escapism.
Based on real history, the story is set in a nuclear fuel warehouse in Las Vegas during the Cold War. Amid the chaos, cheerful music plays in a nuclear shelter built to survive a nuclear war, where tap-dancing twins, ballerinas baking perfect croissants, and modern-day mermaids swimming in a pool lead elegant lives. However, as the nuclear attack warning siren sounds, the pastel-colored fantasy world begins to crumble, and the characters are torn apart and pulled back to reality.
The spirit of this film is inspired by the director's own perception of Miu Miu as a "supple, down-to-earth, sensitive, risk-taking woman." The film features pieces from the Fall/Winter 2017 collection, with pastel-colored fur coats, tulle dresses, mushroom-shaped voluminous hats, and gloves all standing out in a spectacular world, highlighting the story.
The project, which began in 2011, has seen internationally acclaimed female directors create cinematic images using different techniques, with the common theme of "21st century femininity." Works released to date, along with behind-the-scenes footage and exclusive interviews, can be viewed on the official website (http://www.miumiu.com/en/women_tales?cc=JP) and in a free smartphone app. In addition, to coincide with the release of the new film, an official Instagram account (@miumiuwomenstales) has been opened, where behind-the-scenes footage and artwork are posted.
