To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the opening of tenugui manufacturer Kamawanu, the Daikanyama store will be holding an event from August 1st to 31st themed around the future, present, and past of tenugui.

"Tenugui Past," starting on August 1st, will feature tenugui with nostalgic reproduction patterns, as well as tenugui made using ancient techniques such as itajime and tie-dyeing. "Tenugui Present," from the 10th to the 18th, will feature "Local Tenugui," featuring approximately 100 original tenugui designs that have been created through collaborations across the country, as well as approximately 150 original tenugui designs from the manufacturer, in addition to items sold year-round. Finally, "Tenugui Future," from the 19th to the 31st, will propose new ways to enjoy tenugui and new tenugui designs that utilize new technologies.

In addition, there will be a "Red and White Manju Sale" by the Japanese sweets unit Yuimiko on August 5th and 6th, free "Free Sake and Shaved Ice" on the 19th and 20th, a "Chū-sen Dyeing Workshop" (participation fee 2,160 yen) from 11am to 5pm on the 19th, a "Chū-sen Dyeing Demonstration" by a craftsman from 11am to 5pm on the 20th, and a "Rakugo Performance" (capacity 60 people) featuring Master Tamanosuke of Gomeirō from 7:30pm on the 25th.

In addition, from August 10th to 28th, there will be a "Daikanyama Tenugui Tour" where original tenugui will be on display in a variety of shops in Daikanyama. 34 stores will be participating, including Cafe Cherui, Cleansing Cafe Daikanyama, High Life Pork Table, Cafe Michelangelo, Suezen, Assemblage, Onitsuka Tiger Daikanyama, and Kurashino Kobo & Gallery Mukuri.
