A "Circle, Triangle, Square" Afternoon Tea hosted by the famous Japanese confectionery shop "Kuya Monaka" in Ginza and the Palace Hotel Tokyo

Aug 7, 2017

From September 1st to November 30th, The Palace Lounge, the lobby lounge on the first floor of the Palace Hotel Tokyo, will be offering a limited-time "Afternoon Tea - Circle, Triangle, Square" collaboration with Kuya, a long-established Ginza confectionery shop known for its "Kuya Monaka." Founded in 1884, Kuya boasts a 130-year history and is featured in Natsume Soseki's novel "I Am a Cat." This collaboration features a three-tiered bento box featuring Japanese and Western sweets, sandwiches, and sushi, all based on the theme of "circles, triangles, and squares," a motif often used to depict Zen philosophy. Hikoyuki Yamaguchi, the fifth-generation owner of Kuya, will be creating the round bento boxes, featuring bean paste filled with shiratama (rice flour dumplings) and citrus fruit. Hotel chef Eiji Okamura will be creating bento boxes with a triangle motif, including triangular inari sushi. Pastry chef Osami Kubota will be creating the square bento boxes, featuring scones filled with Dainagon (grand councillor) beans. The set, which goes beyond a blend of Japanese and Western styles with a free-spirited approach, is a taste of the possibilities of future sweets.

The price is 4,600 yen per person, or 6,400 yen with a glass of champagne (excluding tax and service charge).
