Yuriko Eto's first solo exhibition, "ZOKU," will be held at Omotesando ROCKET from September 1st to 6th. Eto majored in textile design at Tama Art University, specializing in sewing techniques, pattern making, and weaving. Her 2016 work, "0 (+)," which featured clothes made from everyday, cute trash, won the Jury Prize (Theater Products Kanamori Kaoru Award) at Spiral's SICF17. "ZOKU," which also served as the theme of her graduation project, was born from a focus on the fashion of "tribes" (groups) that emerged among young people seeking freedom at the time, such as the Takenoko-zoku, Miyuki-zoku, and Kaminari-zoku. The collection, themed around a fictional "tribe" set between 1989 and 2000, expresses its culture through clothing and accessories.
The exhibition will feature the first public showing of the entire graduation collection, including one-of-a-kind pieces made from hand-woven, embroidered, and printed textiles. In addition, the brand's iconic sparkling vinyl bags, accessories, and miscellaneous items that Eto admired as a child will be on display and for sale.
