"Apeloiggg Tokyo: Philippe Apeloig," an exhibition by Paris-based typographer Philippe Apeloig, is currently running at the Ginza Graphic Gallery (ggg) until September 16th.

The exhibition focuses on Philippe Apeloig's ambitious latest and recent works. It features his packaging designs for the Issey Miyake Parfums summer fragrance "L'EAU D'ISSEY" series and holiday gift sets, a scarf commemorating the 100th anniversary of Roland Barthes' birth for Hermès, and his latest venture, Sèvres porcelain. It also features his dynamic posters, including the visuals for the "Yves Saint Laurent Exhibition" held in Paris in 2010, as well as fonts and unique logos meticulously designed behind their pop aesthetic. Philippe Apeloy was born in Paris, France in 1962. After studying at the Duperret Institute for Applied Arts and the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Decoratifs, he served as a graphic designer at the Musée d'Orsay and art director at the Louvre. Heavily inspired by modernism and with a deep knowledge of painting, performing arts, and literature, his work is characterized by rhythmic and bold typography. These letters appear three-dimensional within the flatness of posters, possessing the power to appeal to the viewer's emotions. His work has been the subject of a major retrospective, "Typorama" (2013), at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, and a solo exhibition, "Using Type" (2015), focusing on typographic posters, at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. In 2011, he was awarded the French Order of Arts and Letters.
