"Large Boombox Exhibition" to be held, displaying approximately 100 units, from the first vintage boombox to the "Bab-Case" from the bubble era

Jul 17, 2017

The "Great Radio Cassette Player Exhibition ~Shibuya Extra [since 1968]~" will be held at the special venue on the 7th floor of Seibu Shibuya Building A from August 2nd to 14th. Curated by Junichi Matsuzaki, a radio cassette player and home electronics collector, the exhibition allows visitors to see and experience the radio cassette player, which first hit the shelves in Japan in 1968 and is now experiencing a nostalgic resurgence among younger generations. The exhibition will feature approximately 100 vintage radio cassette players, from the original AIWA TPR-101 to standard and overly decorated versions, as well as bubble-era baby cassettes. In addition, the exhibition will feature cassette art by 17 creators. There will also be a corner where visitors can experience the "radio + cassette" experience, allowing visitors to discover the richness and joy of analog. The exhibition will also feature original "Cassette Memo" (540 yen including tax), "iPhone Case" (3,240 yen including tax), and "TAPES Card Holder" (RED ver.: 1,200 yen including tax). Additionally, music tapes from the cassette tape specialty store "waltz" and the "Great Radio Cassette Exhibition Original Cassette Tape" (800 yen including tax), which features 12 hit Western and Japanese songs highlighting the year 1968, the year the radio cassette player and the store were founded, will be on sale.
