Balenciaga opens a special mirrored design space at DSMG

Jul 15, 2017

Balenciaga will open a design space at Dover Street Market Ginza (DSMG) on July 15th, reflecting observations of shopping behavior and the brand's own behavior when purchasing clothes.

The structure and interior furnishings of the space were designed by Artistic Director Demna Gvasalia, and illustrate his interest in assembling "what already exists" in his own unique way for each individual to experience.

As visitors approach the design space, they are first greeted by a slightly smoky glass wall with the Balenciaga logo emblazoned at the bottom of a metal frame. Upon stepping inside, they are surrounded by mirrors that create a seemingly infinite array of clothing and accessories. Passersby outside the space can see shoppers inside and observe the gestures they make in response to their own reflections in the mirror, creating a special atmosphere reminiscent of a theatrical performance.
