The Aichi Prefectural Museum of Art in Nagoya will be hosting the "Photography of the Future" exhibition, opening August 1st.
Amidst the rapid changes surrounding photography due to innovations in digital technology, this exhibition explores the nature of photography and images from various perspectives, including space, time, and the relationship between the viewer and the photographer. The exhibition features works by nine internationally acclaimed artists, including Naoya Hatakeyama and Rinko Kawauchi, as well as Ryudai Takano, Yuki Kimura, Takashi Suzuki, Taku Arai, Kazunori Tashiro, Yuichiro Tamura, and Shunsuke Kano. The diverse media ranges from video and sculpture to interactive experiences. A commemorative symposium titled "Expression and Distance" will be held on August 2nd at 1:30 PM featuring three of the artists featured in this exhibition: Hatakeyama, Takano, and Tashiro.
In addition, "Spiral Coast," a work by Rieko Shiga, a native of Okazaki City, Aichi Prefecture, which was acquired in 2013, will be shown for the first time in conjunction with this exhibition.
"We believe this is the definitive exhibition that brings together contemporary Japanese photographic expression from the past 20 years in one place. It is something that both photography fans and contemporary art fans can enjoy," said the museum.
