The fifth annual Shinano Primitive Sense Art Festival will be held from August 2 to September 7 at various locations in Omachi City, Nagano Prefecture, including the Nishimaru Shinya Memorial Museum and Lake Kizaki. This year's theme is "Water Song Festival" ("utagaki" refers to a meeting place where ancient men and women recited poems to each other). Performances will be held as "events" on a stage set in spaces created as "things" during residency projects, providing a festival space where "things" and "events" can intersect. Additionally, "Art of Living" will be held, where participants will experience butchering and eating ducks raised by pesticide-free farms, relying on solar and small-scale power generation instead of electricity or gas. Artists such as Yusuke Asai, Timothy Edmonds, Ken Hiratsuka, and Irina Razamovska will work together with the organizing committee and volunteers to create a new way of connecting the community through art. A number of events will also be held, including a screening of Ishimure Michiko's film "To the Land of Flowers, a Million Yen" and a talk show by Taguchi Randy and Fujiwara Yoshio (August 3rd, 1pm), an opening event by Kawamura Koheisai and Mizukawa Chiharu (August 3rd, 7pm), a talk event by Mogi Kenichiro (August 10th, 2:30pm), and a closing event by Suzuki Akio and Miyakita Hiromi (September 6th, 3:30pm). From August 9th to 24th, there will also be a "Shinano Omachi Food and Art Corridor" tour, where you can enjoy local food culture and see artworks at water sources and private homes in the city.
